Weather Conditions – 24/11/2022
Dear Customer,
Please be advised that various national regions are impacted by adverse weather conditions and localised flooding which may result in delays for both road and rail services.
NATIONAL RAIL SERVICE
Rail movements out of Sydney & Brisbane have been disrupted due to track closure between Parkes and Cootamundra. Please anticipate extended delays for rail freight ex Sydney or Brisbane into Adelaide / Perth as there is approximately one hundred kilometres of track still under water with no real sign of significant water movement in this area to allow ARTC to check and identify what repair works are required. The latest advice indicates the rail line will not open until sometime in January 2023.
Melbourne to Adelaide / Perth rail movements have resumed with limited capacity as the rail tracks have reopened at Inverleigh, VIC. Please anticipate extended delays on this lane and keep in mind that due to the volume of containers that have been stalled around the network, it is expected to take a week or more to clear the backlog before normal rail services to and from Melbourne resume.
Please note that we are working with our carriers closely to find alternate solutions such as moving freight via the road express service to minimize delays where possible. This information is subject to change based on weather conditions and track repair status. Updates will be provided as soon as notifications are received by carriers and the ARTC.
STURT HIGHWAY CLOSURE
Due to flooding on the Sturt Highway, road movements Ex Sydney to Adelaide have been diverted through Victoria which will impact transit times adding an additional 24 hours.
We anticipate at this stage the road will be impassable for at least the next 24 hours. We will continue to provide you with regular updates as new information is available.

National Rail Service
Rail movements out of Sydney & Brisbane have been disrupted due to track closure between Parkes and Cootamundra. Please anticipate extended delays for rail freight ex Sydney or Brisbane into Adelaide / Perth as the track is not expected to reopen until the first week of December. Rail service has also been impacted ex Brisbane to Melbourne due to flooding at Gunning, NSW.
Rail derailment at Inverleigh, VIC has disrupted rail movements from Melbourne to Adelaide / Perth and no timeline has been provided on when this rail track would reopen. Please keep in mind that this route was the backup plan for rail disruptions out of Sydney where freight was moved via road to Melbourne and then vial rail to Perth. This event will likely cause shortages and delays on road services as trucks will try to alleviate the demand surplus caused by the suspension of rail services East to West.
Please note that we are working with our carriers closely to find alternate solutions such as moving freight via the road express service to minimize delays where possible. This information is subject to change based on weather conditions and track repair status. Updates will be provided as soon as notifications are received by carriers and the ARTC.
